During this journey, we invite you to discover the hidden stories, landscapes and people of this beautiful region.
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN TANGA: CAVES, COLONIAL STORIES AND SWAHILI LIFE09:40 – Flight from Zanzibar to Tanga.10:25 – Arrival at Tanga Airport. Upon arrival, our team welcomes you and transfers you to begin your adventure. Our first stop is the fascinating Amboni Caves, one of Tanzania’s most remarkable natural wonders. Hidden beneath the limestone hills, these caves are surrounded by local legends, traditional beliefs and geological stories that have fascinated generations.After exploring the caves, we continue for lunch at Hashtag Café (lunch not included), a popular local meeting place in Tanga.From approximately 15:00, we begin our cultural walking tour of Tanga city. We visit the old German colonial quarter, Tanga Port area, local markets and hidden corners of the city while learning about Tanga’s role in the history of the Swahili coast, colonial Tanzania and the Indian Ocean trade routes. This special walk is guided by the Director of the Urithi Museum, who shares personal knowledge and stories that bring the history of Tanga to life.Dinner and overnight at Tanga Beach Resort & Spa where you can rest and enjoy the pool.
DAY 2 – FROM TONGONI RUINS TO PANGANI: THE LIVING SWAHILI COASTEarly morning optional activity:06:00 – Kayaking experience in the peaceful waters of the Indian Ocean while observing the coastline from a different perspective.After breakfast, around 10:00, we begin our coastal journey towards Tongoni and Pangani.At Tongoni Historical Site, we explore the remains of an ancient Swahili settlement and discover the story of a coastline that was once connected to Arabia, Persia, India and the wider Indian Ocean world.We continue to Pangani, one of Tanzania’s most atmospheric coastal towns, where history, traditional architecture and village life meet.Lunch at Kingfisher Restaurant (not included), followed by some free time to enjoy the surroundings.In the afternoon, we return toTanga. Right by the hotel, you can join the Mangrove Walk, experiencing one of Tanzania’s most important coastal ecosystems. Dinner and overnight at Tanga Beach Resort & Spa.
DAY 3 – MAASAI CULTURAL EXPERIENCE AND RETURN TO ZANZIBAR
After breakfast, we leave Tanga behind and travel inland to meet one of Tanzania’s most recognised cultural communities – the Maasai.Our Maasai village visit offers an opportunity to learn about traditional lifestyles, customs, cattle keeping, family structures and the connection between people and the land. This is a respectful cultural exchange where guests can listen to stories, ask questions and experience a different rhythm of life beyond the coast.We enjoy lunch at the Maasai village.After lunch, we return to Tanga Airport.
